You see it all the time on social media, MONDAY MOTIVATION, GYM MOTIVATION, YOU NEED MOTIVATION!

Great, but what is it, when do we use it, why do we need it and where do we get it from?!?

New topic for April, MOTIVATION FOR FITNESS, we’ll look into how to get started, how to progress and how to keep it up!

Motivation – a reason or reasons for actions, needs, desires behaving in a particular way. Motivation is a theoretical construct used to explain behavior. It can also be defined as one’s direction to behavior, or what causes a person to want to repeat a behavior.

So we could break this down to simply MOTIVATION IS THE DESIRE TO DO THINGS.

The general responses to why people go to the gym are FAT LOSS, MUSCLE GAIN, BECOME FITTER/STRONGER. While there are many more these seem to be the reasons people go the gym, or the primary “goals” for people.

Sometimes just knowing what your desire is can be enough to get you started, other times you will have to sit down and seriously consider what you want.

Surprisingly, when you ask some people what they want THEY DON’T KNOW! Seems like an obvious thing to know, but so many of us become wrapped up in work, sleep, eat, repeat, that we forget our reasons behind the daily grind and what we want to achieve. This can result in waking up, realising your life is going by and you haven’t achieved any of the things you took as a given when you were younger.

If you don’t know what you want from life, then it may be time to sit down and have a serious think about it. BOOM. Minds blown. But seriously, if you do not know what the reasons for your current actions are then you do not know what motivates you.

I know that on a basic level, I want to live as long as I can, eat every day, have a roof above my head and make sure the other half is happy (can’t always win at everythin though can we!). Now there is motivation to get out and earn everyday. But this is a pretty standard list and pretty much everyone will have these down or similar.

So let’s narrow this down to Fitness + Health, What do I want to achieve?

Personally, I want to become stronger, fitter, healthier in general! Improve my nutritional knowledge, become more efficient at moving and stay fit and stron as I age. I want to be fit in my fifties and carry this on to my seventies, I have no desire to become a stationary geriatric and intend to push myself to ym physical limits. Does this always work out each week, hell no! but I know what my goals are and have something to work towards!

I know my list, do you know yours? If not then SETTING GOALS will be a start for you. We will look into this further in the week and getting you started towards self motivation! We will look into:

So in the meantime, get thinking of what your goals are and get ready to start achieving them.
