Well we know that a white lie here and there is always going to have a better outcome than being BRUTALLY HONEST and offending someone.
And if your other half or friend ask if you like their hair/dress/top etc saying they look like a tramp isn’t productive or very nice.
However when it comes to NUTRITION this phrase really should be used and followed. EVERY day we talk to people struggling to lose weight and we hear the same things coming up again and again.
I don’t really eat much. I don’t drink too much alcohol. I don’t really eat takeaways or sweets. I eat healthily. But I don’t lose any weight.
As trainers we are not trying to catch you out when asking what you eat, we want to help you achieve results so we can monitor your diet and create a calorie deficit through food intake and exercise. This is how you will lose weight and more specifically FAT.
However the problem is that most people are not Honest with themselves or anyone else as to what they actually eat. The troubling thing is that people don’t think they are lying when they say these things, they actually believe them. Britain is becoming more and more overweight yet when you talk to people as a whole, none of us over eat, binge drink and we NEVER consume too many calories! It’s understandable that no one really wants to say they eat too much and do too little, but it’s not something you can hide from. It’s time for a reality check on this:
IF YOU ARE OVERWEIGHT THEN YOU ARE CONSUMING TOO MANY CALORIES.
Now it may be the case that you are strict for 3-5 days a week and your calorie intake is low during this period. HOWEVER when the weekend comes and you TREAT yourself the calories all of a sudden jump up for 48 hours and LBS of FAT can be gained. This is the endless cycle people find themselves in and it can become frustrating, depressing, demotivating, demoralising and mentally detrimental.
SO BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF + STOP LYING TO YOURSELF.
No one else cares how much or little you consume per day, the only person affected by this is you. If you are overweight then lying about your eating habits is not helping you change this and until you hold yourself accountable for your eating and exercising habits then nothing is likely to change. You will be surprised where the extra calories are coming from. Not counting your 3 Lattes a day from the Coffee shop? Well the average latte is around 200 calories. 3 Lattes a day will give you over 4000 calories per week. So if you’re not counting items like these then you will never be aware of how many calories you consume. RECORD what you eat, use an app or paper and pen. But unless you know how much you are eating how on earth can you start eating properly?
Exercise more, get out for walks, get to the gym, go to a class just get moving and start burning more calories.
It’s time to take responsibility for your actions.
It’s 2018 and with all the information, choices and options we have available we seem to be taking less accountability for our actions and lives.
It’s not the Government, Your Work, Your Other half, Your Kids, Your dog or anyone else’s problem.
WANT TO MAKE A CHANGE???
BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF AND START MAKING CHANGES NOW.
