IF YOU ASK PEOPLE IN THE GYM IF THEY PUT THEIR WEIGHTS AWAY THEN THE ANSWER IS ALWAYS YES, SO IF NO ONE LEAVES THEIR WEIGHT LYING HOW DOES THIS PHENOMENON OCCUR.

Well unfortunately a lot of people enter gyms with the same mentality as entering a nice restaurant. They expect to be served, and if you have set up a gym that is big on client service (which is a good thing and something we strive to provide at Future Fitness) then customers may subconsciously assume that while their role is to lift the weights, the fitness instructors’ role is to rack them…
Ask any member of staff at the gym, any gym and they will tell you that people most certainly do not tidy up after themselves. In fact most people leave their weight discs on the machines and dumbbells at the benches. If you are one of the few peace keepers who tidy up after themselves and often others then we praise you! For all the secret dumbbell ditchers….
THIS PATTERN ENDS TODAY!!!
IF YOU CAN LIFT IT YOU CAN RETURN IT – Simple gym etiquette is that when you use something, you return it to it’s storage place. Put the dumbbells back on the rack and the discs back on their holders. Even if it’s not in order, on the rack is a massive improvement from being left on the floor!
FINISHED USING THAT MACHINE??? – Take off the discs and put them on a rack. You might be able to lift the weight you’ve loaded on, doesn’t mean the next person can. Why should the next person who wants to use it have to tidy up after you? What if they are physically unable to lift the weight? If you can load it on and lift it you can bloody well take it off and put it away. A gym membership gives you access to the gym equipment you are using and qualified staff to help you with training, NOT TO ACT LIKE YOUR MOTHER RUNNING AROUND TIDYING UP AFTER YOU!
Our staff will tidy up when they do walk arounds and at the end of the evening, that said if every disc is lying out then there is only so much anyone can do at 10pm at the end of a shift. HOW HAPPY ARE YOU WHEN YOU REALISE YOU HAVE TO SHIFT A COUPLE OF TONS WHEN YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE HEADING HOME?!?
It shows a lot about a persons character to how they treat other peoples property and how they behave in public. If you want to really make progress in the gym then you will lift weights. Guess what putting weights away is doing….lifting weights! Tidy up after yourself and you will make extra gains, not putting your weights away is EXACTLY the same as giving up each set after a few reps because it’s hard work.
Racking your weights shows courtesy to the staff and members of your club, walking away from the leg press leaving it fully loaded leaving the weight that you’ve just boasted lifting on Instagram is not.
We will be tightening up on this ANTI SOCIAL behavior, after all what else is leaving a set of 40kg dumbbells in the middle of the floor?! So do not be offended if staff or members in the gym ask you to put away your weights. Likewise the answer of “it was already on there” is not good enough. While it may have been on there it doesn’t stay there and you are now using it. If everyone helps out then everyone will be able to find weights and dumbbells easily and get through their session. If you have to stop every few minutes to tidy up other people’s mess it is time consuming and ultimately dangerous.
LET’S MAKE AUGUST PUT YOUR BLOODY WEIGHTS AWAY MONTH, GET ON BOARD FOLKS AND LETS KEEP IT TIDY!!!!
