WHAT IS YOUR MOTIVATION FOR TRAINING??

HAPPY HOGMANAY!

Hope everyone is getting ready to see in the New Year, a new decade and the dawn of 2020!

Hogmanay is a great time to reflect on the past year, our experiences and if we achieved what we wanted in the past 12 months. Hogmanay represents the ‘last day of the year a new dawn and a New Year’s gift’

This can be great motivation to kick start 2020 off the way you want to see it through and get some real goals achieved for yourself.

BUT WHAT IS YOUR MOTIVATION???

You see it all the time on social media, MONDAY MOTIVATION, GYM MOTIVATION, NEW YEAR’S MOTIVATION!

Great, but what is it, when do we use it, why do we need it and where do we get it from?!?

SO WHAT IS MOTIVATION?

Motivation – a reason or reasons for actions, needs, desires behaving in a particular way. Motivation is a theoretical construct used to explain behaviour. It can also be defined as one’s direction to behaviour, or what causes a person to want to repeat a behaviour. So we could break this down to simply MOTIVATION IS THE DESIRE TO DO THINGS.

The general responses to why people go to the gym are FAT LOSS, MUSCLE GAIN, BECOME FITTER/STRONGER. While there are many more these seem to be the reasons people go the gym, or the primary “goals” for people.

Sometimes just knowing what your desire is can be enough to get you started, other times you will have to sit down and seriously consider what you want.

Surprisingly, when you ask some people what they want THEY DON’T KNOW. Seems like an obvious thing to know, but so many of us become wrapped up in work, sleep, eat, repeat, that we forget our reasons behind the daily grind and what we want to achieve. This can result in waking up, realising your life is going by and you haven’t achieved any of the things you took as a given when you were younger.

IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU WANT, THEN WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO ACHIEVE?

If you don’t know what you want from life, then it may be time to sit down and have a serious think about it. BOOM. Minds blown.

But seriously, if you do not know what the reasons for your current actions are then you do not know what motivates you.

Let’s narrow this down to Fitness + Health.

Now what do you want to achieve in 2020?

Get a small list, now break it down to what you want to achieve in the next 6 months….

GET YOUR PEN AND PAPER AND GET SOME IDEAS DOWN, SEE WHAT YOU WANT TO FOCUS ON AND USE THIS AS MOTIVATION FOR THE NEW YEAR.
